Tell Me a Story - Let's Go Fly a Kite - August 2014

It's windy here in Coos Bay, OR

We had seen someone flying a kite in Bandon, OR one day when we were walking on the beach, so my husband decided to buy a couple kites.  If you knew my husband, you'd know he had to research kites before he ever purchased one.  He settled on two kites, both para-foil kites, which he ordered off of Amazon.

Now the weather here has been pretty foggy so it took us a few days to get down to the beach to try out his new kites.  We decided on Bastendorf Beach which is about a 10 minute drive from us.

It was a beautiful day at the house.....blue skies, not a huge wind.  We get down to Bastendorf Beach and it was overcast!  We decide since we were there, we would take the kites out anyway.  Other people were also flying kites.  I'm glad we did as it turned out to be a gorgeous day despite the overcast skies.  The fog was blowing in off the ocean and you could see it blow across the sand. Too bad I couldn't capture it the way it deserved to be.

Of course my eyes weren't on just the kites.  Wading in the ocean was also on the agenda for people and birds!

OOPS I got to close! Bye bye birdie!

You can see Cape Arago Lighthouse from this beach as well!  This lighthouse is closed to the public.

I love going to the beach, walking barefoot and feeling the sand with my feet.  THIS however, is my husband's definition of foot attire for the beach.

All in all, it was a great day at Bastendorf Beach.  We came home happy, tired and at least MY feet were sandy!

  2. Welcome to the group - thank you for being willing to join us. What fun. Richard always takes his kite on vacation. Almost never gets to fly it due to the wind, but it goes with. Great catch on the bird. I love the light house image as well. Nothing nicer than being at the beach. Thanks for sharing.
